In the middle of monsoon season, Cambodia in August is wet but the temperatures are more mild, an average of 26°C (79°F). The daily rain typically falls in intense showers lasting a few hours, and not all day, though all day rain is still a possibility.
The intense rains make traveling in the rural northeastern regions such as Ratanakiri and Mondulkiri extremely difficult if not impossible. The rain is the most intense in the south so the beaches are not recommended if you’re looking to relax in the sun.
Despite the rain, Cambodia in August is the land of lush green countryside and the Tonle Sap Lake is fuller, allowing boat access to see the flooded forests. There are also fewer tourists so sights such as Angkor Wat are less crowded.
