In the middle of wet season, July is one of the wettest months of the year in Laos with short and intensive showers lasting for a few hours rather than all-day downpours, and plenty of dry days can still be expected. In Pakse and the southern part, rainfall can be heavier and last longer, which means the waterfalls in the 4000 Islands are at their best. Vang Vieng and its surrounding countryside is also particularly lush and green at this time, although the wet weather can make caving and rock-climbing difficult. In the extreme northern areas, such as Phongsali and Muang Sing the heavy rain can make travelling problematic, as tracks may become unpassable.
Despite overcast skies, the temperature is pleasant ranging 25-27°C, whereas Pakse has higher temperatures than Luang Prabang and Vientiane, and slightly cooler conditions in Phongsali in the north. Humidity levels in July remains 80%.
If you have intension to visit Laos during this period, you will find that July is still a good month with plenty of dry days and fewer tourists.
