Traveling may challenge senior travelers. Here below are some factors that elderly travelers should consider prior to a trip to Vietnam.
1. Buy travel insurance
Though it is not expected to happen, senior travelers may encounter health problems during their trips. Therefore, they are advised to buy medical tourism insurance before they travel to Indochina to protect their benefit when they get injuries or encounter health problems. Else, hospital expenses may cost a fortune.
Notes about travel insurance you should know before your trip.
2. Have full information about Indochina’s climate
The weather in Vietnam can be split by region. In Hanoi & the north, May to October is hot and humid with high rainfall; November to April is cooler and dry. In the far north, December & January can be particularly cold. Central Vietnam experiences hot, dry weather between January & August when temperatures can hit the mid-30°C’s; whilst high levels of rainfall can occur in September, October & November. Southern Vietnam is generally dry and hot from November to April, and warm and wet between May & October, with the highest rainfall in June, July & August.
In Cambodia, December and January are the best months for travel in Cambodia although it is still hot and humid. The months of November and February are tolerable. Stay away during the summer months of March through May, as the weather is extremely hot, and June through October when it is monsoon season
In Laos, Despite having two distinct weather seasons you can travel in Laos all-year-round and with no coastline to influence things, Laos’s weather system is relatively straight-forward compared with much of Asia; consisting of a dry season (October to late April) and a wet season (May to late September). Within each season there are variations in temperature, with the dry months leading up to the wet season (March and April) and the early wet season (May and June) usually being the hottest of the year.

3. Bring enough medical supplies
There is no free medical treatment available in Vietnam and the standard of local health facilities is below international standards. Therefore, they are advised to bring enough medical supplies along with their medical records. In preparation for emergency situations, they also should search for information on the local clinics or hospitals.
4. Travel in parties
There might be lots of robust elders or retired people who are ready to take an adventure independently. But, it is always wise for them to travel in parties. It is safer and in case of emergency, they can be taken care of immediately. Therefore, booking a tour package, traveling with friends or families, is strongly recommended.
For elderly travelers, a private tailor–made tour is regarded as the most suitable tour as this tour can be very flexible with the health status, interest, timing and preference of the tourists. Moreover, a private guide who carefully take care of the traveler during the tour is very important, especially for people who have problems related to health.

6. Walk slowly and carefully on the streets
When crossing the road – especially in HCMC – always keep looking to the left and right and walk slowly! Make eye contact with oncoming motorbikes and check that they see you so that they can avoid you. Be prepared for zebra crossings to be ignored and for motor vehicles to expect you as a pedestrian to give way to them.
At rush hour motorcyclists take to the pavements in droves in an attempt to beat traffic jams, endangering the lives of pedestrians.
Wear a mask when walking in the cities, to avoid breathing in vehicle fumes and other noxious smells.
Be prepared to walk in the streets with the traffic. The pavements are for motorbikes to park on, people to sit and eat, or just lounge around on!
When walking be prepared for people to stroll casually into your path and expecting you to navigate around them.
7. Accommodation
We recommend our "senior" clients to stay in a central location to allow, during their free time of the morning and the evening, activities as practical as easy. We suggest international standard hotels with comfortable bedding, shower, and elevators.
