Day 1: Hanoi City 1 Day
This day tour of Hanoi takes you from one classic site to the next while weaving you through the bustling old quarter streets and the shady French quarter boulevards. Whether you’re here for a day or a week: This is a great way to spend a day in Hanoi!
The first stop is the Ho Chi Minh Complex, named for the beloved father of modern Vietnam. This complex is where Ho Chi Minh declared Vietnam’s independence in 1945. The Mausoleum is where the founder of Modern Vietnam rests today.* This famous complex also includes Ho Chi Minh's Stilt House, the Presidential Palace.
From modern to ancient, we head to the Temple of Literature. Constructed in 1070 to worship Confucius; it was Vietnam’s first university. Housed here are 82 stone steles perched on stone tortoises that honor the 1307 Vietnamese scholars that passed prestigious royal exams between 1442 and 1779. The “campus” is a tranquil hideaway from the city’s bustle with maintained lawns, gardens and lotus ponds.
After lunch at a local restaurant, we visit Museum of Ethnology.** This excellent museum is dedicated to Vietnam's 54 officially recognized ethnic groups. It boasts an impressive collection of artifacts including a reconstructed traditional home.
Heading back to the old quarter, we take a cyclo tour of the Old Quarter. You will be able to relax and watch as life in the Old Quarter unfolds. Get your cameras ready! Our last stop will be a visit to the Ngoc Son Temple on Hoan Kiem Lake. Set on a tiny islet in the middle of Hoan Kiem Lake, the Ngoc Son Temple traces its origins back to the 13th century.
