Day 1: One Day to Villages around Hanoi
Our guide will pick you up at your hotel and we will leave Hanoi, crossing the mighty Red River and passing fields being tended to by women in the customary conical hats. Our first stop will be at Trang Liet Village. This quaint town is a peaceful example of village life and offers a wonderful introduction to small town Vietnam.
A short drive from Trang Liet, and we arrive at Dong Ky Village. Dong Ky was once known for its firecracker production but, after the government banned firecrackers, the village developed its woodcarving craft. Today the village is known for its high-quality carvings, made by the “golden hands” of the skilled local craftsmen. Spend the morning exploring the quaint streets, the bustling woodcarving market, and visiting one of the village’s well preserved traditional homes.
After lunch at a local restaurant, we will visit the village of Vong Nguyet. Vong Nguyet is known for its production of high-quality silk. Here the village participates in all aspects of silk weaving: from raising silkworms to growing mulberries to feed the silk worms, to spinning and dyeing the silk. We’ll take the time to wander the streets of this charming village and visit a silk weaver to learn about the craft.
You also will have time to wander along the village lanes and explore the mulberry fields before heading back to Hanoi. Once in Hanoi, you will be dropped off at your hotel. Don’t forget to ask us for some great recommendations for Hanoi at night.
