Transport conditions in Vietnam

Air transport

In the market for domestic air transport, Vietnam Airlines still has a monopoly, even if there are flights from Jetstar Pacific Airlines, cheaper but less regular. Domestic flights of Vietnam Airlines are quite dense and cover the largest cities in the country, with a modern fleet consisting mainly of Airbus and Boeing. On some short trips, the company operates the ATR 72 and some Fokker. It is quite common to be subject to delays or cancellations of flights due to heavy rains during the monsoon. Flight schedules can sometimes be subject to change without notice. Unannounced cancellations may occur.

Rail transport

The national rail network connects Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh, through Hue, Danang, Nha Trang and Hanoi – Lao Cai in the North with several daily departures to the 2 main cities. Some trains are equipped with air conditioning in sharing 4-berth cabin. 

Road transport

All vehicles used during your stay are modern air-conditioned vehicles, normal car to 39 seats depending on the size of the group. Renting a vehicle includes an individual driver.

Water transport

A wide choice of boats if offered across the country, including various types depending on the location.

Boats from 12 to 24 seats are used for cruises in Halong Bay, and those from Chau Doc to Phnom Penh (Cambodia).

Smaller boats are used for trips on Mekong Delta.

You can use airboats that can greatly reduce your transportation time if the distances are great during your stay, such as between Ho Chi Minh and Vung Tau, or between Can Tho and Chau Doc. In the North, a hydrofoil also operates daily route Hai Phong and Cat Ba island

Air transport

In Cambodia, the Cambodian national Airlines serves most major cities. Similarly, the President Airlines operates several domestic routes. It is quite common to be subject to delays or cancellations of flights due to heavy rains during the monsoon.

Rail transport

The rail network is in poor condition

Two links: Phnom Penh/Port of Sihanoukville in the south west and Phnom Penh/Sisophon to Thailand

Train travel is long and very uncomfortable.

A speedboat connects Phnom Penh to Siem Riep taking 5 hours (rainy season) and 6 hours (dry season).

Boats of 12 to 24 seats are used for cruises from Chau Doc (Vietnam) to Phnom Penh and on the great Tonle Sap lake towards Phnom Penh/Siem Riep.
